There
are always precautions to be taken when walking. On
Mountain climbs then any individual at any time of year
should be appropriately equipped. However even off the mountains
moderate precautions should be taken. Scottish weather can
change at any time. Be sure to have proper clothing, some
sustenance and water. Heat stroke is quite common when care is
not taken.
If
you walking in areas without recognised paths or trails, you
should familiarise yourself with the Land Reform (Scotland) Act
2003 which put into law
your rights of land access for recreation. In a nutshell it
means that you can access just about any land but you must show
care and respect whilst carrying out your statutory rights.
Apply common sense and you will be OK. For instance if a land
owner has put up a notice saying grouse shooting in progress,
then find another route. If a field has a crop growing, find
another route etc.
