Loch Lomond Walks

It is possible to walk just about anywhere around Loch Lomond. If you want a short stroll or a full day walking then this is a great area to do it. Please visit our Hill Route page for Mountain walks. You can just park your car and get out. However there perhaps are a number of key areas where there are more defined routes we have described a few below.

There are always precautions to be taken when walking. On Mountain climbs then any individual at any time of year should be appropriately equipped. However even off the mountains moderate precautions should be taken. Scottish weather can change at any time. Be sure to have proper clothing, some sustenance and water. Heat stroke is quite common when care is not taken.

If you walking in areas without recognised paths or trails, you should familiarise yourself with the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 which put into law your rights of land access for recreation. In a nutshell it means that you can access just about any land but you must show care and respect whilst carrying out your statutory rights. Apply common sense and you will be OK. For instance if a land owner has put up a notice saying grouse shooting in progress, then find another route. If a field has a crop growing, find another route etc.

Park here at the road end (from Drymen). The West Highland Way winds its way along the loch side (no roads). to Inversnaid and beyond. This is a beautiful walk, get your lunch at the Inversnaid Hotel and return. Aprrox. time, half day plus lunch. Please note, the path can be quite busy in the summer months but is still worth the effort.

Drymen
Around the village there are quite B roads which give easy walking for those who may have a push chair or party member with a wheelchair. The road towards Gartmore in particular affords easy access from the car park in Drymen. This road is also part of the Rob Roy Way and generally there is very little traffic. Cyclist also can use this route to access the forest tracks to the north of Drymen.

Luss
Luss village is a great and popular spot for walkers. There are excellent trails from the centre of the village into the Luss Hills (these should be treated as you would with mountains, particularly in the winter). There are also many shorter and flatter routes in the vicinity.
